Bold Orion on the Rise

I've always wanted to do some night sky photography, and with the Nikon I finally have a camera with decent time exposure controls. I was hoping to catch a Geminid meteor in the frame but gave up after about ten minutes because it was right about 0° F. that night, but I do think that some of the star pics were worth the effort anyhow.

Caught!

Submitted by Dan on

I took this one on Christmas Day (2007). The coyote was chasing a rabbit and didn't see me at first. Unfortunately the I didn't get the focus quite right, but it still isn't too bad a pic.

The Evil Eye

Rascal must be--or at least thinks he is--one of the most photogenic cats alive.

Obligatory Nude Photo

Submitted by Dan on

Every Photographer, both amateur and pro, needs to have a little nudity in their work. Otherwise what would bring the ninety-nine percent of the net users who only look at porn to their websites? (The other one percent also look at YouTube videos of kittens and pirate music.)

btw- I did get Ruth's permission to post this. ;)

Vermin? Who are you calling vermin?

Taken near the top of Logan Pass in Glacier Park. People have fed the gophers (technically ground squirrels) so much that they've lost all fear of people.

Taming the wild Eliza

Submitted by Dan on

Here is Ruth struggling to subdue one of our cats, Eliza, after she went on a prolonged cat-nip bender. The de-tox was a killer and the only thing that got the poor kitty through it was a prolonged cat nap on Ruth's lap.
(no cats were harmed, however a human came pretty close to losing a limb)

Ruth at the Space Needle

Submitted by Dan on

A pic of Ruth at the top of the space needle at night. You can tell from her expression that it is cold and very windy, but she was very patient with me while I fooled around with the camera settings and took time to show some nice Japanese tourists how the pictures looked.

Family Photo

This was a family photo I took at our cabin, we had gathered to bury my mother's ashes in one of her favorite spots.
The people are:
back row: me (Dan), my brother Wes, and my father John
front row: my wife Ruth, Wes's wife Wendy, and Wes's and Wendy's daughters Kaitlen and Lauren.

Creek on Granite Loop Trail

This is a creek near the beginning of the Granite Chalet trail in Glacier Nation Park, MT. Just a little farther down this trail is the spot that I proposed to my wife.
